Yesterday I broke down to my mom. I was devastaded from the Orlando tragedy, the 50 lives lost and the 53 injured, and the acknowledgement that there are people out there who are willing to go to any extremes to spread their hatred and absurd believes. To think that a mass shooting is the outcome of some random asshole witnessing something so beautiful as two men expressing their love is so surreal to me. Im more than ever aware that the world is messed up and full of hatred and that you could lose your life just by being yourself or showing love.
So go ahead and hug your loved ones a little tighter, kiss them and let them know you love them. Just dont lose hope or let yourself be ruled by fear. Keep your head held high and try to smile and live life. Remember that being gay, gay pride is about loving yourself and others, acceptance, diversity and being yourself, free. Do not let them take that away from you, from us. I literally feel like Ive lost family because thats how I see our community. I wish I could hug everyone of you out there who are feeling scared, who are grieving or feeling hopeless. I hope the day comes when we’re fully accepted but for now know in your heart that there are people out there just like you, who will love you and accept you and will become your family regardless of gender, skin or sexuality. Dont lose hope.
